As the sun sets and the full moon rises, a chill runs down your spine. You know what's coming: another episode of "Chucky." But fear not, dear reader, for this review will guide you through the gore and terror, making your journey through the world of the murderous doll a little less terrifying. With a slasher flick style that would make even Halloween's Michael Myers shudder, the third episode of "Chucky" is a blood-soaked, eerie journey into the mind of the child's plaything. Yet, with its campy humor and '80s horror references, it's also a delightfully enjoyable escapade that is not to be missed.
The third episode of "Chucky" season three, titled "Jennifer's Body," is a memorable one. The series is off to a blood-soaked start with kills in every episode, and the trend only continues in the third installment. The episode gives viewers a much-needed exposition that fills in gaps of the story that led to the current events. It explains how Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) ended up in the White House, what Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) is up to, and Caroline's (Carina Battrick) whereabouts.
The episode starts by revisiting the Season 2 finale with Tiffany attempting a voodoo ritual, and Nica (Fiona Dourif) watching with a smug smile. However, her expression changes when she sees Caroline carrying Chucky and begins to chase her down. As Nica is a wheelchair user, she's unable to follow them as they escape down some stairs to the subway. Caroline and Chucky then flag down a taxi, whose driver is none other than Kenan Thompson. He's amused by Chucky at first, intrigued by the talking doll, until he hears them discussing plans of murder. Chucky gets hold of an umbrella and suffocates the driver, and sending squirting blood all over the place in an incredibly gruesome kill. It's one of the show's gnarliest kills next to the chainsaw that took down Mayor Cross in the Season 2 finale.
Sometime later, the episode reveals that Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) doesn't get killed by Chucky, as the latter only appears in a dream acting maniacally to stab and taunt him. Andy talks on the phone with Kyle (Christine Elise) and then sits down in a chair, only for Chucky to appear and tie him to the bed's headboard. Chucky then repeatedly plunges a knife into Andy’s chest, laughing maniacally as Andy screams, which is shown through a low angle camera shot, indicating Chucky's presence. It's a shocking and brutal scene, but ultimately it's just a dream, or is it?
Chucky seems to be aging, which is an unusual problem for a doll. When he and Caroline look in the mirror, they both realize that he is showing wrinkles and crow's feet. Caroline urges Chucky to visit a doctor since she's reading Tiffany's "Voodoo for Dummies" book that prescribes sacrificing six people inside an evil house for Chucky to save himself. They head to Amityville, New York, to the Amityville Horror house since Chucky claims that Dutch Colonials are always the most evil houses that exist.
A party is being held at the Amityville house, and Caroline knocks on the door pretending to be lost, scared, and holding Chucky in her arms. The man who opens the door lets them in without a second thought, which proves to be a massive mistake when Chucky goes on a killing spree at the party, although the episode doesn't show the violence happening in real-time. The aftermath shows a heap of bodies lying on the floor, with body parts strewn about, and both Chucky and Caroline covered in blood. However, the ritual doesn't work, and it turns out that Chucky is not in an evil enough house, leading him to believe that he must try The White House next. The episode ends on that note, a fun throwback to classic horror movies and another reason why "Chucky" season three continues to deliver in every aspect.
Overall, the episode is campy, gory, and packed with a body count that's worth watching. The episode fills in the gaps of the story and ensures that viewers are waiting impatiently for the next episode. "Chucky" season three is shaping up to be yet another successful entry in the franchise.
In conclusion, "Jennifer's Body," the third episode of "Chucky" season three, is a thrilling and entertaining hour of horror television. From the gruesome kills to the throwback references to iconic horror movies, the episode has everything that fans of the franchise could want. Despite its terrifying moments, the show remains playful, thanks to its self-aware humor and the often campy delivery of its terrifying plot twists. So, if you're looking for something to watch that will leave you on the edge of your seat and laughing simultaneously, look no further than the newest episode of "Chucky." After all, what could be scarier than a killer doll who also happens to be hilarious?
